World Water Day -- save water

Water is too precious and is one of important thing for any creature to live on the earth.so we need to save this precious item carefully.

Following are the precautions to save water

At work

*Don't forget to turn the tap off properly after washing your hands.

At home

* Fit insulation to water pipework - running taps waiting for them to get hot can waste a lot of water;
* If you have an older or larger cistern, save water during flushes by filling a plastic bottle or bag with water and carefully placing it in the cistern. NEVER place a brick in the cistern;
* Turn the tap off while you brush your teeth and rinse at the end with a mug of water. A family of four can save a bathful of water every third day this way;
* Take showers instead of baths. So, save time, water and energy by taking a shower;
* Rather than running tap water until it's cool, keep a bottle of cold water in your refrigerator;
* Wash vegetables in a bowl, not under a running tap. Soaking vegetables makes them easier to peel.
* Half-load programmes on dishwashers and washing machines use more than half the water and energy of a full load. Wait until you have a full load before switching the machine on;
* Check the label when buying new appliances to check they are water-efficient.

In the garden

* Rainwater is better for plants - collect it! Only use mains tap water as a last resort. Watch the weather forecast and save washing-up water for gardening on dry weekends;
* Water plants in the evening to avoid the water evaporating. Always use a watering can rather than a hose - you can measure more easily how much water each plant receives. A hosepipe left running for one hour will use as much water as most of us need during a whole week!
* Use a bucket to wash your car rather than a hose.

Now, i want to contribute in saving water and i promise that i do a my bit fro the environment, Do You ???????

World Environment Day 2008(5 June)--Melting Ice-A Hot Topic?

New UNEP Report Shows Just How Hot It's Getting Lives and Livelihoods of Hundreds of Millions if not Billions in Many Parts of the World Influenced by Ice and Snow Losses Linked to Climate Change

Impacts are likely to include significant changes in the availability of water supplies for drinking and agriculture, rising sea levels affecting low lying coasts and islands and an increase in hazards such as subsidence of currently frozen land.

An estimated 40 per cent of the world's population could be affected by loss of snow and glaciers on the mountains of Asia says the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) in the Global Outlook for Ice and Snow.

Melting ice and snow are also likely to increase hazards including avalanches and floods from the build up of potentially unstable glacial lakes. These can burst their ice and soil dams sending walls of water down valleys at speeds close to that of a modern anti-tank missile.

Home Sickness

When you sleep somewhere else - like at summer camp or a friend's house - you know you're in for a fun time. It can be exciting to get away from the same old bed in the same old room in the same old house. And you get to hang out with your friends!

But fun as this is, being away from home can be scary and sad. They want to go and have fun with their friends, but once they're there, they start to miss their good old bed, their good old parents, and all that everyday stuff at home. It's called being homesick.

There's No Place Like Home

When you're homesick, you're not sick in the usual way - like with a cold or chickenpox. Homesick means you're upset, sad, and maybe scared. A kid might cry when he or she is homesick. You might also have a headache or stomachache because being upset can sometimes make your body feel bad, too.

Cures for Homesickness(Shorter Tips)

Are you ready for the good news? You can help yourself feel less homesick. Here's how:
1)Bring a little bit of home with you.
2)Keep busy.
3)Stay in touch.
4)Talk to someone where you are.
5)Still Homesick?

You can learn to feel less homesick. We really hope you do. Why? So you don't miss out on all those adventures waiting for you!

National Geography's Topo explorer

National Geographic’s TOPO! Explorer gives daring technophiles a chance to create and share their favorite trails using detailed topographic maps provided by Google Maps. These maps support GPS integration, which makes things easy. Just upload a map to a supported device, head off in the general direction of the trail, and you’re on your way. You can also attach geo-tagged photos to your maps, allowing you to show points of interest (or beauty). And when you’re done you can share you experiences through comments or on the site’s forums.

WIX -- The Bold Web Content Creator

Cluttered and candy-coated are two ways to describe Wix, a new Flash-based website and widget creation tool that we’ve been anticipating for months. It’s also feature-rich, very well-designed, and - sorry - still in private beta.

Wix joins a multitude of browser-based website creators such as Weebly, Synthasite, and Google Pages. But it reminds me the most of Sprout, a widget-creation tool that can also be used to make websites, since both provide fluid Flash interfaces that appeal to your inner designer.

Both of these companies are blurring the line between content that’s meant to stand alone as distinct websites, and content that’s meant for syndication over blogs, social networks, and other destinations. It’s because of this obfuscation that they’ve opted to use the unspecific, yet self-referential, names “sprout” and “wix” when referring to their creations.

Whereas Sprout is mainly marketed as a tool for spreading media content, Wix most certainly appeals to a younger population that’s obsessed with expressing themselves online (call them MySpacers, if you will). Wix does have a collection of tasteful business themes, but the vast majority of its templates are for fun and fall into categories like “street art”, “emo”, “playground”, and “sexy”.

Once you pick a theme for your new website (or widget, just depending on your dimensions), you are taken to a popup Wix Editor that provides you with an overwhelming number of ways to spice up your creation. You can add shapes, clipart, photos, videos, songs and animations; you can tweak colors and set visual effects for user behavior; and you can add text paragraphs and headlines. Photos can be uploaded manually or pulled in from either Flickr or a royalty-free stock collection; videos can be embedded from YouTube; and there’s also a collection of free song clips that can be used in a range of skinnable music players.

Each wix supports multiple pages with links between them. When you want to edit a particular object on a page, you click on it and options for rotating, resizing, and positioning are revealed. A Mac OS-looking doc at the bottom of the screen also provides icons for setting effects, behaviors, animations, and more. You really need to play around with Wix to fully appreciate how much flair and how many customization options it affords.

As you work on your wix, you can hit a preview button to see what it will look like. And once you’re done with it, you can publish it either as a website hosted on the wix.com domain or as a widget to be embedded or sent to friends via email.

One of the major complaints many have about Flash is that it doesn’t allow for indexing by search engines. Wix gets around this by producing content that’s a hybrid of HTML and Flash, despite the fact that it’s editor is entirely Flash-based. This will be a huge benefit to anyone who uses Wix to set up a serious website, but it probably won’t make any difference to widget creators.

FireWallScript provides PHP based protection

FirewallScript has just launched a software-based security service that can be used on any server that supports PHP5, and even provides support for shared hosts.

The firewall is very similar in function to the popular open source firewall ModSecurity, but according to co-founder Ron Myers, there are some important differences. For one, a ModSecurity installation is server-wide, meaning that nobody on a shared hosting plan is able to install or modify its settings. This inevitably leads to problems, because ModSecurity tends to take a generalized approach to protection which may conflict with valid applications run by users who are unable to disable it.

In contrast, FirewallScript can be installed by any user on a server, even under a shared hosting plan. All users can install or modify their security settings at will, and FirewallScript offers ‘Rule Packs’ which are pre-configured for certain web apps like WordPress and vBulletin. This allows users to tailor their security to cover things that applications like ModSecuity may have mishandled. Installation is also a breeze, requiring only a simple install script and a minimal amount of technical knowlege.

I think that FirewallScript could have a place in the market, given that the vast majority of small-time sites are hosted on cheap shared hosting plans. But I question how many people will be unsatisfied with the security their plans already provide, or how many will care about security to begin with. For those that are interested, enter the code ‘techcrunch’ for 50% off the normal price of $85.
